“WHAT-the-wha…? A DOCTOR STRANGE BOARD GAME”, I hear the collective crowd exclaim, incredulously.

Yes! And, as a point of fact, a DOCTOR STRANGE BOARD GAME that was OFFICIALLY produced by MARVEL COMICS!

“Who-in-the-WHAT-now?!”, You all stammered, as one….

Yes! I am quite serious. There is a DOCTOR STRANGE BOARD GAME.

“WHY didn’t I ever hear of such a thing? HOW is such a thing possible? WHEN did this miraculous event occur?”, I heard you say, while completing the rest of the ‘5 “W’s” of proper questioning’.

I know what you’re thinking. “Whoever green-lit this project would have to be… CRAZY!”

And y’know what…? You’d be 100% correct!

Printed in the pages of CRAZY # 88 (a “SUPER SPECIAL” issue) by Marvel Comics (magazine division) back in July 1982, there was presented all the makings of an honest-to-goodness paper-craft DOCTOR STRANGE BOARD GAME!

Complete with: spinner, multiple decks of cards, the game-board itself (because it can’t really be a board game if there isn’t a game board), rules, game pieces, and, of course, for the very reason that this is an “IDOL PURSUITS” post… FIGURE STANDEES!

For your entertainment pleasure, I’ve scanned in the entire game pages (game board, pieces, instructions, etc) and digitally cleaned it all up to high-quality standards (available for download below).

You can either save the files and color them digitally (if you have the knack [and art software]) –or- print these out and color them in the more traditional manner (crayons, colored pencil, magic marker… heck, turn them into oil paintings, Picasso).

I still have my original set, which was from when this book was only a scant few months old. There were no fancy computers then, ya young whippersnappers, so we colored things with markers of magic, and THAT WAS THE WAY WE LIKED IT! Uh… sorry. I have the sudden urge to chase kids offa my lawn.

Now where was I?

Oh yes… My old set is shown here (at the top of this post) - for authenticity's sake - in a makeshift box and all hand-colored and pasted together. I have the urge to redo it all digitally now… and since I made these scans, I think I will!

Oh, you want to know what the game is about?

Well, it’s about obtaining perfect enlightenment as a Master of the Mystic Arts - or – falling into the grip of MADNESS and being locked away in an asylum!

See? FUN!

Here, let me allow Doctor Strange himself to explain it all in the accompanying comic strip (before and after the assorted game pieces).

The ONLY part of assembling your very own version that MAY be even the slightest bit difficult is to align the FRONT and BACK of the playing cards (POWER CARDS, ASTRAL PLAYIN' CARDS, DISABILITY CARDS & TREATMENT CARDS). Your best bet is to print them out, cut out the BLOCK of cards (ignoring all the rest of the stuff on the page), and then make sure the edges line up. If the edges line up then the cards should line up, front-to-back (-or- hold them up to a light-source - on a window, or a lightbox, to see if they match up). Then use a glue stick or spray glue and reset together back-to-back. Then, cut them out on the dotted lines, and you'll have your cards!
If you're technically adept and want to align them on your computer and print out double-sided, well... aren't YOU fancy?!
And speaking of fancy... I'd highly recommend bringing the GAME BOARD file to your local copy shoppe to have them print it out on nice glossy stock (or even mount it onto some board)!

Anyway, the game is oodles of fun (if frustrating torture is your idea of a good time). I didn’t have anyone with whom to play this game when it first came out, so I pretty much had to play with myself (uh, wait…). It wasn’t until many years afterwards that I tested the love of my then-girlfriend by having her play with me (now WAIT a minute… I mean THE GAME! Perverts). She wasn’t all that excited by the game, but she seemed to still like ME enough to marry me a few years later. As I recall, I won the game and I won her heart.

So there ya have it! Play this game and find true love – guaranteed! (Note: Guarantee of love is not binding or in any way meant as a guarantee. Let’s face it, you’re about to slap together a home-made board game. No one is gonna find that sexy. Not even nerd-sexy. Good luck.)

I've been dying to blog here the past few weeks (and I've a few GREAT posts in the works, mostly dealing with SUMMERTIME themes of SUMMER MOVIES and MUSIC - but in the case of this blog, all the Doctor Strange related flix and trax in my collection).

However, since I've been underwater with my real-world responsibilities (which seemed to have reached tsunami-levels in the summer), and can't get to finish those time-consuming blogposts, I'll treat you to some quick and easy Summer-Time Eye-candy instead!

Doctor Strange: Master of the Mystic Arts # 5

Not since 1415 with the resignation of Pope Gregory XII has a living Pope stepped down from the Papacy. Such a calling is one that is answered and followed ‘til death. When the seat of St. Peter does eventually fall vacant, the process to place a new Pontiff thereupon begins.

Still, even though Pope Benedict XVI, who replaced the beloved Pope John-Paul II upon the wizened Holy Father’s  passing, had only been bestowed of Triregnum And Pastoral Staff in 2005, he has, a scant 8 years later, decided that he is too old and infirm to continue his duties as leader of the Holy See.

Thus it turns to the College of Cardinals from around the world to form a conclave to decide who is to become the new leader of the Catholic Church. *

As nearly everyone across the world has learned, a new Pope has been chosen:

Pope Francis I (born Jorge Mario Bergoglio – of Argentina).

And while we celebrate the choosing of a new Vicar of Christ, so now, we turn our gaze to one who had nearly obtained that sacred post, and who for better or worse… was passed over.

ISAIAH CURWEN… the SILVER DAGGER.

ISAIAH , who had risen to the position of Cardinal had ahead of him one last challenge…the Papacy. He had been an excellent cleric and had thus garnered the respect of his colleagues as well as the reverence of the laity whom he served.

However, even though he was the favored choice of successor of his Pope, he would ultimately be passed over – ostensibly due to his youth – and most importantly, due to his fevered fundamentalist fanaticism. It is said that there is no worse sinner than a fallen believer, and thus when the fall is from as high as nearly becoming Pope, the sins later committed would be grievous indeed.

It was then that he found himself at the doors of the Vatican’s Library – the repository of the world’s most complete collection of books on the dark arts, that he “divined” his true purpose. Deluding himself that his being passed over for the Papacy was so that he might become God’s Personal Weapon in the war against Satan, Curwen read every volume of magic in the vast archives. This he did for six days and nights, and did neither eat nor sleep, so that upon the seventh day… he was to wrest forth the secret workings of magic!

Thus was born… SILVER DAGGER; naming himself after his weapon, the traditional destroyer of demons.

From then he renounced his position in the Church – but not his unwavering and fanatical faith – and set across the globe to study under adepts of all the dark religions, mastering them all and then slaying his instructors – meting out his own brand of the Lord’s Vengeance.

Then, at last he found his next intended target to be the ANCIENT ONE, but he was too late; the Aged Master had become One Will All and in his stead Doctor Strange stood as Sorcerer Supreme.

It was Dr. Strange whose death Curwen believed God decreed. It was to Dr. Strange that he turned his attentions. It was to Dr. Strange that Silver Dagger dealt Death!

For while other foes may have come close, SILVER DAGGER has been the only foe to not only subsequently take possession of the EYE of AGAMOTTO as well as kidnap CLEA, but to successfully bring about... 

...the DEATH of DOCTOR STRANGE! **

*             It is also prophesied by St. Malachy as well as Nostrodamus that this next Pope is to be the LAST POPE and is purported to being the one at the seat during the END OF THE WORLD! (So… we have THAT to look forward to. One more shot at Armageddon.)

**           And yes, while Doc was able to “accept” his death and thus become reborn as an “immortal”, that doesn’t negate the fact that Silver Dagger stabbed him in the back (quite literally) and brought about the death of Dr. Strange. MORE about that DEATH and RESURRECTION can be found in this old post [HERE].

Silver Dagger has also slain or severely wounded several other of Strange’s associates over the years; Clea, Rama Kaliph, Jack Russel (Werewolf by Night), James Mandarin, Devil Slayer and more.

After a LONG dry spell without any affectionate looks or sweet lovin' from CLEA (2 years!), we're finally returning to a much-loved feature here on the Sanctum Sanctorum Comix blog (seriously, the hit numbers on these posts are huge, you perverts) wherein we take a look at Clea's desire for ...er... physicality.

Seriously, this has always been a popular feature here, but at some point, I just stopped presenting them - despite their being such a wealth of instances in the comic canon.

Well, to make it up to us, Clea has agreed to grant us nearly every man's dream... the 3-way.

Not just one three-way... but THREE three-ways (sorta).
I'll explain.

As we've shown in every other past edition of the CLEA LOVES SEX series, it is obvious that CLEA...well... LOVES SEX!

That doesn't stop at our reality either. Alternate Realities also present Alternate Lifestyles for the white-haired, other-dimensional princess.

For instance;
In the recent DARK AVENGERS v2 # 185, we are given a glimpse into the twisted world of an Alternate Reality version (or possible future version - it's not clear yet) of Doctor Strange and Clea.

And in this version of reality Clea is still as hot to trot as in any other.

A three-way (which includes a "furry" pseudo-bestiality partner), plus a Ms. Marvel cosplay and a big creepy gimp in the corner who likes to watch.

Not only that, but as shown here, she's "open" to "alternatives" with her sex with  Doctor Strange, saying; "I love to indulge." And indulge she does, to any who want to join in, since Tigra can't rip off her own top quick enough to get in on the action.

The Tigra aspect of this equation isn't out of the blue either, since she was a live-in "associate" to Doctor Strange in the "Marvel Mangaverse" series.

Japaneriffic! At least she's not wearing a sailor suit.

Scarlet Witch soon teams up with them for a tight team as well.

Still, this isn't the only time that an alternate reality version of Clea was open to a three-way.

In this next case, the BEYONDER had offered each of the Illuminati their heart's desire and Doctor Strange is shown waking up in bed with CLEA & SCARLET WITCH.

(Note: Check the night-stand next to the darker haired woman. That's Wanda's headdress. Just in case you doubt me on this.)

Clea and Wanda are MY Marvel dream 3-way too.

(y'know... if I had to choose 2  totally fictional woman that are drawn on paper and not at all real to hook up with...

... don't you judge me!)

So... maybe DOC subconsciously has a little something for Wanda, but maybe it isn't JUST DOC who has a little something for Wanda... Clea DOES love Sex, y'know.

The final alternate reality "3-way" is a little more ... complicated, as it takes place in the Amalgam Universe (which is what happened when the Marvel and DC Universes... merged).

Among the many heroes who were created by the Amalgamation process were Dr. StrangeFate and White Witch.

White Witch seems to have the power to make pants tighter. Ba-Zing!

Obviously, White Witch wants to cast a spell on Dr. StrangeFate.

But... I hear you say... that's just two - where's the third person in this so-called three-way?

Well, it would really be a three-by-three way, if Doc was into it.
Y'see...what complicates these two heroes even more is that unlike most other characters, who were only merged versions of 2 characters (ie; "Super Soldier" who was Superman and Captain America or "DarkClaw" who was Bat-Man and Wolverine), this magic couple was comprised of THREE characters each!

Dr. StrangeFate was the merged entities of Professor X and Dr. Fate (and the visual and overall character-aspect of Doctor Strange) while White Witch was the merged version of the Scarlet Witch and Zatanna (with visual and character-aspects of Clea).

Colorist forgot to make her hair mostly white. I guess he was distracted.

So, even if Dr. StrangeFate turns down White Witch (like he does here, since... I'd imagine having your voice echo in that helmet would give you a headache [though... I gotta tell you, I don't care HOW bad my headache is... there's no way I'm not all-in with White Witch if she asks. Just sayin'.]), and she decided to have her own "girl's night" (you know what I mean)... then she'd still be a three-way unto herself!

It doesn't matter if she's with Doctor Strange or not, in this reality or any other...

Before 2012 came to a close, I wanted to showcase an art commission that I was hired to draw for an obvious Doctor Strange fan.

I was contacted by a young woman named Heather Oglevie (yes, I asked if she wanted me to use her name here) wherein she requested a piece of Doc and Clea dancing.

There are waaaaay too many details to be seen in the small image that fits in the blog. (and sadly, even the scan can't capture all the details and shading in the original drawing, so...)

This is the finished product, but perhaps, some of you may remember when I posted the following preliminary rough sketch [HERE], along with another commission drawing?

A few things were immediately noted for change (new dance poses, for instance), but a few ideas stuck around until the final piece.

Now, I could discuss and show you all the multiple stages of the redesign process here... BUT... I DO have an ART BLOG that is really the place where such things should be detailed.
So, I'll tease you with a few of the follow-up dance poses, and then send you to the link for the art blog post.

When the final product arrived, Heather replied that she was amazed, and that the scans did not do justice to the piece. Sadly, a scanner just could not capture all the nuanced detail and shaded tones.

She did take the time to digitally colorize one of those scans and I must say she did an amazing job!

So, if anyone wants to commission a piece of art by yours truly, it's quite obvious that I give a lot of serious thought to the process and always strive to deliver far more value than what the client pays.
